name: 09 Thaler's Raiders 68 convention
Another Flash unit (as they called it back then.) Nine Technicians...seven people, including some from the CBS Labs and production staff...16 all told to run the ship. On the Roof..Left to right.....John Lincoln-Camera....unknown RF tech from CBS California....George Klimcsak-Camera....Mike Kaufman-Video. Below-two people under CBS Color logo...left to right: Dave Roth-Director, unknown....kneeling, unknown, Vern Surphlis, Stu Meyer-Video, Al Thaler-Producer....Behind the Thaler Raider's sign, unknown, Chic Gulino-Audio, Ed Gill...between Chic and Gill...from CBS Labs - Harvie Schwartz...Sandy Bell standing. Few of the unknown from the CBS Labs had been part of the crew to help keep the unit working. Miami was darn hot, and the generator, air conditioner and equipment were overheating. Harvie Schwartz was in charge, and by golly, we managed to perform very well with the lab people's knowledge. This unit was also used at the 1968 Chicago conventions and also was used in China for the Nixon visit. The Chinese insisted on driving the unit and CBS had to give in. The CBS Labs people also had been thinking once again, because this unit, while at Fort Dix to load on board the C-140, drove up the ramp and into the cargo bay with no problem. They had the correct height of the vehicle. As for ABC's unit, the wheels had to be taken off, and smaller wheels fitted, so it would fit into the cargo bay. Blue Ribbon to our CBS Lab's Engineers!
